The Odyssey Story

Australian entrepreneur and Chartered Accountant David Carter launched Odyssey Resources in 1998 to provide accounting and management consultancy services to a wide range of businesses and organisations in Australia, North America and Asia.

In 2006, David focused Odyssey Resources onto providing outsourcing services after observing first-hand the difficulties Australian firms were facing in finding skilled accountants. His curiosity and research revealed a very real and growing need, which only fuelled his enthusiasm and determination to identify the optimal way to service this critical shortage, currently reported as high as four available jobs for every one accountant.

The idea for providing outsourcing services isn’t a new one, and the abundance of research and articles in the public domain provides a wide range of views on the pros and cons of outsourcing. While India holds the lion’s share of stories, David was determined to take the good and to avoid the not-so-good aspects of these other models to create a new and uniquely “Australian” approach to outsourcing to his home market.

Odyssey’s services have been met with an enthusiastic response, and as a result of our phenomenal growth, our Operations Centre moved initially into E-Town 2, one of Ho Chi Minh’s most modern office complexes, and then in 2008 into E-Town 3, the very latest professional services tower in this office development . Our new centre gives us a capacity of in excess of 100 full-time accountants and provides us with a state-of-the-art working environment complete with a wide range of company-installed security measures.

While Australia was originally the primary market for Odyssey Resources, the vision quickly expanded to incorporate Australian and international firms operating in Vietnam, with Odyssey operating in the middle tier as the only firm of our type in Vietnam.

As we look to the future, the groundwork is already laid for a 3rd phase of expansion within the E-Town Business complex as Odyssey continues to provide firms with a uniquely Australian way of providing accounting, tax and bookkeeping services to both Australian and Vietnamese clients, and an eye on supporting clients within the New Zealand market in the near future.
